Utah Summer Games
For more than 20 years, aspiring athletes from throughout Utah have descended upon Cedar City to challenge themselves in 50 different sports, including soccer, bowling, softball, Karate, even bass fishing. Slated for the second and third week of June, Utah Summer Games events are hosted by Southern Utah University, Iron County School District and the Cedar City Parks and Recreation Department. An average of 7,000 participants, 50,000 spectators, and 1,000 volunteers come to the games each year. Add all that together and you have one of the premier sporting events in Utah.
For those that would like to participate, you must be a resident of the State of Utah for at least 30 consecutive days during the last 10 months prior to June 1st or a resident of a neighboring state that does not currently hold an officially recognized State Games event. Residents attending school, serving as missionaries or in military service outside these states are also eligible.
USG is a charter member of the National Congress of State Games (NCSG).The NCSG is a national membership organization comprised of the individual State Games across the country. The NCSG is a community-based member of the United States Olympic Committee and rights holder of the State Games of America. The State Games of America is the premier national Olympic-style sports festival held every other year. Medal winners from State Games earn the right to compete against other medal winners and match their skills and competitive desire in a national arena.

Utah Summer Games XVI Milestones
- The 2001 Utah Summer Games was the biggest ever with 9,080 athletes competing in 43 sports.
Opening Ceremonies
The Opening Ceremonies attracts an estimated 15,000 people to the Eccles Coliseum to enjoy the inspiring Parade of Athletes, the lighting of the Utah Summer Games Cauldron, a gigantic fireworks display and a rockin' performance by major headliner entertainment including such acts as BTO, Blackhawk, and Collin Raye.
